Measuring Outcomes

After the staff implement a new Lean healthcare process, they measure and record the outcomes. These measures could be as simple as reductions in turnaround time or the amount of wasted supplies.

Comparing this data to earlier measures of the previous process, the staff can determine how effective their solution has been. If they identify possibilities for further improvements, they may wish to create a new approach and implementation plan for management approval.

Because Lean healthcare is an ongoing journey, processes should be monitored and improvements considered on a continuing basis.
